You mentioned Julia at CSUCI and her offer to explore how to help with viral campaigns
My own interpretation
of what your dad chose CSUCI to plant was: deep community building projects in one of the poorest areas of CA and by
a college that is multicultural with perhaps as many students with spanish as mother tongue english (also relevant as I believe
its the case that a majority of members of the new york grameen are spanish speaking in line with profiles of unbanked americans)
It is true that a philanthropist Larry Janss that sponsors some of CSUCI Yunus activities is a serious film-maker (one
topic of deep interest to him is preventing teens suicides) who also owns a lot of farm land in CA.
However
LA has many additional hugely passionate supporters of Yunus with connections or practical experience with viral
media and my recommendation would be that Julia urgently host a meeting to see if their energies and CSUCI can be united.
In fact I have often assumed that LA could be the natural second branch of sing for hope if this city mobilised its often
underemployed artists around the Yunus vision
Groups who link in to that out of LA are
1 yunus partner
http://www.thegreenchildren.org/
2 http://www.theglobalsummit.org/ while not a yunus partner I know this millennium goals cordinator well; she has been uniting 4 groups including
underemployed artists, greens, and underemployed technologists; she is also a close friend of yunus film-maker holly mosher
http://bonsaimovie.com/ (if 2011 had been a normal year, hiolly would have been doing a road tour of her movie uniting usa networks of
social business this spring; in fact she asked me to leave her latest program with your dad); at the 2008 global summit I
attended a key figure was john perry barlow -perhaps the 5th most important figure after tim berners lee for open web
and co-leader of The Grateful Dead pop band. He is a great lurking friend of your dad and popped up on the only intelligent documentary
on the internet the BBC has ever made http://www.bbc.co.uk/virtualrevolution/interviews.shtml - a priority next connect of yunus london networkers
3 currently the virtual community of student microcredit
club leaders http://www.mficonnect.com/ is coordinated by chris temple out of claremont univerrsity and it also has this viral experience that reached
1 million hits on youtube http://onedollaraday.weebly.com/ ; since chris also joined in the 48 hours remembernace events of my da I had offered his network $5000 of prizes to
do a viral campaign that led up to yunus in congress; if this needs to be refocused now I still offer the prize but obviopusly
mficonnect need to be one of the co-hosts
also possible to connect with is heath row who now works in LA
with google.org; he used to run 200 social capital chapters across the world when working for fast company magazine; in these
days he reported to the founder of fast company Alan Weber now a semi-retired journalist but one who has written in USA today
that dr yunus should get an economics nobel prize as well as a peace one and a person who compered the first summit at wolfsburg
at a time when I had recommended to him that would be the start of the most collaborative meetings process on the planet
and of course the only global brand partner in usa is grameen intel though its nearer san francisco than LA
please say if you would like me to write email intros between you and any of the above
2 YOUTHS FREEDOM OF
VOICE
meanwhile I have always desperately hoped that you could get over to paris to see the folk at http://www.danonecommunities.com/ as I believe every capital city needs a danone community portal and a monica sing for hope; I assume that your diary is booked
up a long time ahead but if I could ever sponsor your flight to paris so you meet danone please say.
Around Anne
a 3rd youth enterprise movement is emerging namely one focused on questionjing: in the 12 months before a place takes the
world stage for 2 weeks as london will with the olympics what can youth negotiate with all the mega-sponsors to ensure
community social actions sustain long after the entertainment. Right now corporate sponsors who dont take anne seriously find
they soon get questions from prince charles or PM camerons offices as why london olympics should bother celebrating with
them,
Hero worshipping sports is just too darn costly a process to be sustainable unless we can get the bbc to
demand that olympics games and end poverty races co-sponsor each other. As often the French already have the best movie on
that 8 at http://www.notimeleft.org/
Dear John
My honor to meet the source of sustainability- I read yunus last chapter as saying the 2010s is the
most exciting decade ever with sustainability of peoples and planet at stake making the 60s race to the moon look a trivial
pursuit
some urgent action puzzles of interest to our 1000 bookclubs and which we hope to progress on july
4 meeting which dr yunus 30 year long friend dr zasheem ahmed is convening
1 yunus told those attending
his 69th birthday dialogue that sofia hosted in dhaka last summer including bbc polar/solar broadcaster paul rose that unless londoners unite he will put german creative lab in sole charge of his sustainability olympics festival-
he is a bit of a tease but how do we mobilise? (way beyond my experience)
2 yunus uses his extreme antidote definition
to governing by 90 day numbers in his storytelling of social business stockmarket to raise the question if you were
investing over a 20 year (pension type span) what system designs (business models) would you want in such a market ;
this was an exponentials maths question that interested me in 2000 on publication of brookings report unseen wealth-
but I couldnt find a single usa stock fund manager interested in it; I think yunus clue of "no dividends" is seminal
to investing in the most purposeful organisational systems, and that although his book doesnt say it, paris may already be
answering his question
3 one of slightly late 70th birthday wishes we hope to make come true in glasgow
July 4 Interdependence Day is the launch of Journal of Social Business - then we can also time special issues eg on Sustainability
Games
hope there's lot of sustainability fun to be had with the book; I first really met jonathan and sofia after
a really bad 2005 in which my community building mentor colin morley was killed in 7.7; we hosted an open space at the hub
- come only if there is sustainability crisis you feel must be turned round by 2012 and will collaboratively network everything
toward that end; Jonathan's hubs have come on tremendously since then -we hope that yunus will see that on 4 July. My own
sustainability crisis is the BBC ( the world service social buisness if ever broadcasting media will have one) -
can yet be jewel in crown of UK as a nation - time for a world leader in sustainability news analysis
instead of 90 days numbers newsdesks. http://www.normanmacrae.com/netfuture.html
As Euro tsunami bites, I feel that the BBC and sustainability olympics and yunus (adam smith) glasgow
and job creation camps and hubworlds are the only unique things UK economy -and sterling - will have to boom with.
http://yunusforum.net/?p=80 (always hopeful the national sustainability map turns out to have more to generate with)
